Our AML and Verification Policy

We hold licence MGA/B2C/823/2022 from the Malta Gaming Authority, and that licence places clear legal duties on us to prevent money laundering and to verify who plays at 1Red Casino. This page sets out exactly what we do, what we ask of you, and when.

Our Commitment to AML Rules

MGA licence obligations

Our platform is operated under Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/B2C/823/2022, which binds us to the Prevention of Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism Regulations implemented in Malta. We apply these rules to every account, without exception, from the moment of registration. Our compliance team includes a designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) who oversees the programme and reports suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.

We run risk assessments on all players, train our staff on AML obligations, and keep our internal policies under regular review. For you, this means the checks we describe on this page are not optional extras: they are legal conditions of holding our licence.

When We Verify Your Identity

Verification points

Verification is not a single event. We carry out checks at defined trigger points, and we may also verify you at any point if our monitoring raises a question about your account.

  • At registration: electronic identity and age checks against trusted databases.
  • Before your first withdrawal: full document verification of ID, address and payment method.
  • At deposit or withdrawal thresholds set by our AML risk policy.
  • At any point where transaction monitoring flags unusual activity for review.

Documents we ask for

To verify your identity we ask for a government-issued photo ID (passport, national identity card or driving licence) showing your full name, date of birth and validity dates. Proof of address is a utility bill, bank statement or official government letter issued within the last three months in your name. Where required, we also verify that the payment method is yours: for a debit card, the card with the middle digits covered; for an e-wallet, a screenshot of your account profile; for crypto, confirmation that the wallet address is under your control.

How Verification Works Step by Step

The five steps

Your documents are transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on access-controlled systems restricted to our compliance staff. We never share your verification data with third parties except where the law, our licence or a competent authority requires it.

  • Upload your documents through the secure verification section of your account, never by email.
  • Our compliance team checks each document against your registered account details.
  • We may ask for a live selfie or short video to confirm you match your ID.
  • If anything is unclear, we contact you through registered support channels with a specific request.
  • Once approved, your account is fully verified and withdrawals are released for processing.

When We Ask About Source of Funds

Evidence of where money comes from

For most players, verification of identity and address is enough. If your deposits or play reach levels set in our AML risk policy, we are legally obliged to understand where the funds originate. This is not an accusation: it is a standard requirement under MGA rules for higher-risk activity.

Acceptable evidence includes recent payslips, a tax return, pension or benefit statements, dividend or investment statements, or a bank statement showing regular income. Where deposits are made in crypto, we may ask how the crypto was acquired. We review each case individually, and we treat everything you submit in strict confidence. Until the review concludes, withdrawals may be paused.

How We Monitor Transactions

Deposits, withdrawals and limits

Every deposit and withdrawal on our platform passes through automated and manual screening. We look for patterns associated with money laundering: rapid deposit-and-withdraw cycling with minimal play, structuring amounts to stay under thresholds, third-party payments, and unusual changes in behaviour.

We operate a same-method rule: we return withdrawals to the deposit method you used wherever possible. If you deposited by Visa Debit, your withdrawal goes back to that card; if you deposited in Bitcoin, we return funds in Bitcoin to a wallet you control. Third-party payments are refused, meaning you must deposit only from accounts, cards and wallets in your own name.

Withdrawal limits are 5,000 GBP per day and 20,000 GBP per month, with a minimum withdrawal of 20 GBP. Our withdrawal processing time is 0 to 24 hours once verification is complete, and we charge no fees on withdrawals.

If Verification Fails or Stalls

What we do and what you can do

If your documents are rejected, we always tell you why: expired ID, cropped images, a name mismatch between the document and the account, or an address document that is too old. You can resubmit corrected documents at any time, and there is no limit on reasonable resubmissions.

If you do not provide requested documents within the timeframe we set, or if we cannot establish that funds are legitimate, we suspend the account: deposits are blocked, play stops, and pending withdrawals are held. Where our obligations under MGA rules require it, we may report the matter to the authorities and, in serious cases, close the account and return funds to their verified source. False documents result in immediate closure and forfeiture of winnings, in line with our terms.

How Long We Keep Your Documents

Retention periods

We retain verification records for five years after the end of our business relationship with you, as required by Maltese AML legislation. After that period, we delete or anonymise your documents unless the law obliges us to keep them longer, for example where an investigation is ongoing. Retention protects you as much as it protects us: it demonstrates your account was verified properly if any question ever arises about past activity. You may request confirmation of what we hold about you at any time by contacting [email protected].

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to verify my account before I can deposit?

No. Basic electronic checks run at registration, and full document verification is required before your first withdrawal. You can also complete it earlier to speed up withdrawals.

How long does verification take?

Most submissions are reviewed within 24 hours, often the same day, provided your documents are valid, legible and match your account details.

Why must my withdrawal go back to my deposit method?

Our same-method rule is an anti-money-laundering control required under our MGA licence. It confirms funds return to the person who deposited them.

What happens if I refuse to provide source of funds evidence?

We pause withdrawals and restrict the account until the review concludes. If no evidence is provided, we may close the account under our terms.

Do you charge for verification?

No. Verification, deposits and withdrawals all carry no fees from our side.
